“Isn’t that the girl who’s boyfriend died? I saw her on the news? I heard that his head was decapitated.” 😑 This was my Junior year at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. I will never forget the struggle of not just the actual loss but the conversing of mouth smackers around me. 16 years of age, already filled with many different emotions as it was, the heartache of losses is one that superseded the most. It was a time where I needed support but not in the context of verbally speaking about the event. Not right away that is. Rather, to have family and friends extend their hearts and a lending ear. For the people who have been affected by the Valentine’s Massacre of Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting in Parkland, Florida on Feb 14. 2018 where 17 died and 14 injured- - I am truly sorry for loss. I am sorry you may experience the post traumatic stress factor that will be expended. Please know you are not alone. Take note there are people who can help on the emotional, energetic and mental level. Do not be discouraged.
As for those who have a loved one or friend suffering, I have learned that when experiencing a tragic event it is important to understand that the person experiencing the loss is tragically dying inside. There are moments of broken heart syndrome. Instead of asking and continuously speaking— just stop. Allow for the person to register the information. Allow for them to go through the motions. Allow for them to know that you love them and you are more then willing to talk about it when they are ready. Let them know you are there for them. Never force someone to open up and relive the event until they are ready to. Trust me, they will open up. We are human and naturally nurture and crave to be nurtured.

I am ready to begin a new journey as a IMCU Nurse (Intermediate Critical Unit Nurse) 💉 There is an emotional depth that I am feeling. I am quite terrified but ecstatic at the same time. I wouldn’t trade it for the world, it feels good to give back, to feel alive. The emotions of a Nurse are so real; we can feel them all in one complete day from experiencing births of new life and morbid deaths, cycles of laughter and tears, feelings of happiness and sadness. It definitely takes a lot of patience, awareness, and a chubby heart. A shout out to all the nurses out there, #loveyouall 🙌🏽♥️👩🏻⚕️
