🌱 Thinning seedlings? Eat 'em up! This was just the beginning of a tasty homegrown, home-raised, organic #gardentotable meal: scrambled eggs courtesy of Luna and Phoebe, served on top of various sauteed garden veggies and last winter's turnip green pesto (defrosted from the feeezer), topped with sweet habanada peppers and a pile of just-thinned radish and turnip sprouts 👌 #eatwhatyougrow

Glad your girls are growing mine aren't. Giving them some love later

  • @deannacat3 6:10 PM Oct 19, 2017

@soaustintx What do you mean, not growing? The chickens? Or did you mean not laying?

  • @charisstewart 6:11 PM Oct 19, 2017

    Yummmmm

  • @theurbanladybug 6:46 PM Oct 19, 2017

    Sounds fantastic!!

  • @deannacat3 6:59 PM Oct 19, 2017

@theurbanladybug 😚 Thanks lady! It was! Everything good on your 'stead?

  • @theurbanladybug 7:08 PM Oct 19, 2017

@deannacat3 yes, all is well! We were approved for a loan & almost bought a 6.6 acre property with a newly renovated modular home on Sunday. We decided against it after a night sleeping on it because I’ll be getting a promotion soon in the town we currently live in and this property was an hour commute each way to and from my work to the house. So I decided not to because I just can’t see myself being able to commute an hour at 3am, down those dangerous country roads, I gotta be practical although I want to move so bad! So although it killed me to turn down the offer, I know something closer that is better is waiting for us!

  • @deannacat3 7:11 PM Oct 19, 2017

@theurbanladybug Yes, sounds like a good decision because, yuck, what a commute 😝 More time on the road only means mire time away from home, among many other drawbacks! But that's SO exciting that you're so close to being able to make the leap and live the dream, especially after all the b.s. you've gone through to get here! I'm sure happy for you, and congrats on the promotion!

Are the girls laying soo many eggs?? They are gorgeous 😍

  • @soaustintx 7:34 PM Oct 19, 2017

@deannacat3 sorry not laying. 9 girls and maybe 2 eggs 😞

  • @hayleys_kitchengarden 7:53 PM Oct 19, 2017

That’s a great idea. I always feel so guilty pulling them out . I usually give them to my chooks.

  • @deannacat3 7:56 PM Oct 19, 2017

@mamabugjen they say thank you! Just Phoebe and Luna right now, but they lay about every day. The other two younger gals haven't started yet, and old Hennifer is on a molting break 😊

  • @deannacat3 7:56 PM Oct 19, 2017

@hayleys_kitchengarden They get some too! But we want some for ourselves; they're tasty!

  • @martinapokorna 8:05 PM Oct 19, 2017

Oh thank you for sharing 🌠🤗🐢

  • @deannacat3 8:09 PM Oct 19, 2017

@soaustintx Two of our 5 are laying now... but I'm glad that is your plight, and not "not growing!" I was worried they had parasites or something!!!

  • @growitorganically 8:12 PM Oct 19, 2017

@theurbanladybug Smart move refusing the offer. Long commutes on winding roads in the dark can literally kill you. We’ve got an 80-mile drive each way to our clients’ gardens, but it’s mostly freeway. We control our schedule and we never do it more than one day in a row, we always have a day to recover and restock between work days. Doing it every day would be dangerous.

you are amazing & i love all your posts!

  • @theurbanladybug 9:01 PM Oct 19, 2017

@deannacat3 yes! I agree! I just knew if I had trouble driving the short commute I have now, that it would just be really dumb for me to commute even further. Also, I figured 10 hours a week I’ll be driving, that’s 10 less hours a week I’ll be spending on the homestead so that’s just not okay! And yes! We are so excited, but we know we need to be patient! i just know in my heart we will find something perfect if we do! Thank you so so much Deanna! Means so much to me to have your love and support! ❤️❤️❤️

  • @theurbanladybug 9:04 PM Oct 19, 2017

@growitorganically yes! that was literally my exact thoughts! It’s just not worth the risk of not making it to work or home one day because of the commute. This particular road is a pretty scary one too and especially on rainy/foggy winter days. It’s just too risky and having to do it 5-6 days out of the week would just be out of the question, id exhaust myself!

  • @greenladymeg 10:44 PM Oct 19, 2017

    Yummy!! 😍

  • @peasncarrotsmama 12:42 AM Oct 20, 2017

Do those peppers get spicy? My kids love the sweet yellow and orange peppers that come pre bagged at the store. I'm trying to figure out what they are so we can grow them. We want sweet mini ones, not spicy.

  • @sugarcanedreams 1:02 AM Oct 20, 2017

    Those eggs look AH-MAZING @deannacat3 !!! 😍😍😍

  • @adventurous_giraffe 12:32 PM Oct 20, 2017

My bf loves to tell people that I eat my thinned seedlings....as if I'm some kind of monster eating my offspring. He just doesn't know he also eats them! Ha!

I spent hours on here yesterday. Thank you for the beautiful pics but more for the knowledge I gleaned. I love how much you share. Your passion shows through!
