I’d like to thank all the new people who followed me in the past weeks! Also, happy Thanksgiving to those who are celebrating it ✨
I do not celebrate/observe Thanksgiving. Here’s why:
1. As a principle, I firmly believe in expressing gratitude for the people, experiences, privileges and material blessings in your life on a daily basis. We have so much to be grateful for every day, not just one day a year when you’re told to vocalize it.
2. Both Canada and the US have a LONG way to go in terms of how indigenous peoples are treated. I choose not to participate in a celebration of genocide. Today is a great day to do some reading on the MASSIVE issue of missing and murdered indigenous women (MMIWG), the real history of Thanksgiving and colonization in North America, the horrors surrounding the NoDAPL movement (especially this week), and the countless other ways aboriginal populations have been marginalized and oppressed over the course of history. Educate yourself. What are you doing to help, or are you part of the problem?
3. So 🦃 many 🦃 slaughtered 🦃 animals. For what, gluttony in the name of tradition? No thanks. Everything in moderation, treat your body and your planet right. 🌱✌🏻
That being said, I hope you all know how grateful I am for all of you. And I hope this post got you thinking, just a bit. Go hug your great aunt Edna and have some wine for me. Love you all!
