We encourage our followers to avoid going to Papas & Beer while in Ensenada. @papasandbeer practices predatory pricing based on race and nationality which is not only unethical but highly illegal under Mexican law. Papas & Beer has two different menus, one priced in dollars (USD) and another in pesos (MN). Pricing in dollars is nearly DOUBLE the price in pesos. While attending an event on Tuesday November 14, 2017 as a VIP guest of @monsterenergy and @scoreinternational, we quickly learned that prices for buckets of 10 beers are not set in stone (also illegal under Mexican law). We started our negotiation for beer at $45.00 USD and finally settled on $25.00 USD. We asked for a menu in Spanish and I was told that “the pricing on the Spanish/Peso menu is not valid for you” because I was a “rich American”. In the end, we were literally thrown off of a table by our waiter Adan when we refused to order a second bucket of beers. This was while we still had two full bottles left to drink. We understand that a business needs to make a profit, however, this illegal “gringo tax” is unacceptable and needs to cease. Prices for the “grill for two” in dollars is $40.00 and yet the price for the same item in pesos is $410.00 pesos (@17.5 exchange rate = $23.43 USD) as shown in the photos. In addition to informing our followers we will be filing a formal complaint with PROFECO and encourage others who have experienced similar treatment to do the same. When in Ensenada spend your hard earned money somewhere other than Papas & Beer. There are many reputable restaurants who follow the law and who will provide you with good service and great food. ——————————————————-
