It has often been said that retirement may be an ending, a closing but it is also a new beginning. It is the key to find joy in the little things of life. After 18 years of commendable and praiseworthy service in the Oil Industry in Nigeria, first as a top executive in Shell Petroleum Development Company Limited, and more recently as Managing Director of Addax Petroleum Development Nigeria Limited, Mr. Cornelis Zegelaar, fondly called Cor by us retired as Chief Executive Officer of Addax Petroleum. He worked in the several years he was in Nigeria in Port Harcourt, Warri and Lagos. In Warri he learnt how to speak Pidgin English and ate “banga and starch” and several Nigerian dishes. He imbibed the Nigerian culture so much that the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom in Delta State appointed him a Chief. A party was held in his honour that was well attended by the Captains of the Oil Industry. In this image, Left to Right: Mrs. Dorothy Atake, Mrs. Hilda Zegelaar, Chief Cornelis Zegelaar, and me. We wish Cor and Hilda a very happy retirement and that he discovers all the beautiful things of life. That he also notices the beauty of his children, wife and even the tree outside his front door. Further that he becomes aware of the beauty of time itself and that his life begins in retirement.
