School canceled today due to the ice so Tristans at home with us. Since the boys woke up at 6am I wasn't able to finish my workout so I did the second half later this morning. Tristan was watching me and asked, "Do girls lift weights? Oh boys lift weights." I said, No buddy girls lift weights too. It makes the super strong. Look at this and I showed him muscles. Then he say down and wrote new card. The sweetest message ever. In it it said that I'm strong and he likes that I work out. Tristan actually begun to do a few exercises in the evenings which makes me super excited.
In my studying to become certified in personal training I learned that 66% of Americans older than age 20 are overweight. 34% are obese, which equates to approximately 72 million Americans. Chronic diseases have become the leasing cause of death and disability in the US, accounting for 70% of deaths. Most of these can be avoided with proper exercise and nutrition.
This morning Tristan asked my why I workout. "Do you workoutto help you run mom?" I told him I workout to stay healthy. It's very good for me. It helps me chase him and his brother around. It makes mommy happy. Seeing that he's taking something away from this makes my ❤ happy. I want him to continue to see his mommy working hard and staying healthy. That's all the motivation I need right there! Today I bumped up to 30 lbs!!!! Had to start stealing my husband's weights.
[Link in bio] Season 2 of the podcast kicks off with a special episode near to my heart. As some may know, my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's a few years ago. I know it can be a sad, bleak, or heart breaking thing to hear.
But my guest, Judy Cornish, has seen something different. She sees the human, not the disease, and she has a deeper understanding of what remains despite dementia. I've seen a lot through my conversations with her, and I am happy to share her work with the world.
I highly encourage you to listen if you have a loved one with dementia. Link is in my bio. And please, if you know of someone who could use some good news about dementia, tag them.
