While some gemstones' are timeless ("diamonds are forever") others cycle in and out fashion. Tiger's eye (also known originally as crocidolite) is an excellent example. Highly prized in the 1870s, when a large deposit was discovered in South Africa in the late 1880s it became ubiquitous even carved into table tops. The gemstone disappeared from jewelry until the 1960s (anyone know why?). This Tiffany & Co bracelet dates from that time combining tiger's eye with diamonds. It typifies the company's daytime jewelry from the era -- colorful and playful with a touch of luxe.
