We had a rather special message in our inbox that we wanted to share with you this Christian Aid Week where we have brought our attention to our refugee neighbours like Nejebar. 'Hello, my name is @mayadoolan and I'm 18 years old. With the Syrian Refugee crisis currently happening it is clear to see there is a lot of hate towards refugees who are only seeking help and safety. I know this is an extremely important topic and since I am an A2 art student I felt compelled to study this not just on an artistic level but also in order to spread awareness that at the end of the day these people are not terrorists or evil beings trying to 'steal' resources, they are humans, just like you and me, and we were just lucky enough to be born in the U.K. Last week I completed my A2 final art exam and I did a piece titled 'Treating refugees as the problem, is the problem'. I wanted to convey the message that people do not voluntarily become refugees. So many factors could force a family out of their home; war, poverty, corrupt government, the options are endless and we should stop blaming refugees for things they cannot control. A mother wouldn't send her child into the open ocean unless the land they stand on is more dangerous then the sea. Seeing as though it is Christian Aid Week I feel it is more important then ever to convey this message.'
