H.S. SOPHOMORE KATELYN TUOHY DESTROYS THE 5K NATIONAL RECORD AT VIRGINIA SHOWCASE
In what is possibly the greatest high school performance I have ever witnessed, Katelyn Tuohy pulverized both the indoor and outdoor 5,000-meter records with her 15:37.12 clocking on Saturday afternoon. The records belonged to Brie Oakley (15:55.75i), who ran the record and New Balance Indoor Nationals last spring, and Mary Cain (15:45.46), who set her mark in 2013 while just a junior.
This is certainly within her capabilities, after seeing Tuohy clock a 9:05.46 3K just weeks ago, which suggested 15:36 was possible but not at all expected. Her intermediate split of 9:54.28 for 3200m is the 5th fastest indoor time in H.S. history.
In next month’s Millrose Games, Tuohy will be competing in the girls mile with a goal of running a sophomore class record and breaking 4:40. Since she has the second best 1500m time for a freshman (4:18.51, after Cain’s 4:17.98), I fully expect her to do it.

..and we're off! The season had begun 💔
#gbtcinvitational 3k - 8.52
Happy to finally get this year rolling with a solid rust buster and Arthur's first track meet at #harvard this morning. Felt great to lace up the spikes and spin the wheels it my first ever 3k. Can't really hang with this these middle distance boys, but heck, I'll try!.
*asleep the whole race. 👶💤💤
Fantastic result Jo, and certainly a good day to test the accelerator out! 🌨🙌🏻
F*[email protected] YEAH! .
Sometimes the days you really don’t want to run end up being the best ones 🎉
Half marathon for this week’s #missionmarathon long run - I fully intended to chill the pace right out and practice my slow running, but it was just so horrible out there (rain, sleet, wind, minus temperatures) that I really didn’t want to hang around. Kept it at a comfortable pace for the first 16K, then gave it a little bit of a push in the last 4-5K because, well, im a muppet and I cant help myself sometimes. Still, I finished feeling strong and not totally done in, so I think that’s a good sign! I promise I’ll start slowing the pace down in future 🙈, but that has really helped me mentally to know that I can feel good at that pace and the miles just flew by today 🙌🏻
Also worth noting that I tried the @ketosource MCT oil again - now up to a full tablespoon about 30mins before I head out, and I swear that stuff is rocket fuel - gives a really nice long, slow burn of energy and I really think that’s helping me so far. Massive thanks to @thesci for all the nutritional support so far - it’s making the world of difference on daily basis, as well as in my training runs! .
Only slight drama was trying out a new route (which I hate doing for fear of getting lost), and I ended up getting stuck due to a park gate being locked. So ended up doing more of an out and back route instead of what I had planned. But still, a lot of it was along the same route as the @palacehalfmarathon that I have planned for March, and I’m hoping for around 1.40 there, so again, this was a serious confidence boost! Hooray for a really good weekend of running 🏃🏻♀️😊🙌🏻
Mission marathon week 3 over and out! .
When you're sweating BECAUSE ITS WARM OUT, and not because you have 17 layers on😍 Headed to the the park where I did every single long run training for my first half 3 years ago and it gave me a lot of feels. I've come SO far since those runs. 11 mi @ 8:30, a beautiful day and being this prepared 7ish weeks from race day = 💃🏻

I've actually listened to my body today and took an unplanned rest day. My knee is feeling a bit tight and achy after yesterday's long run and also have pain in my glute...not sure if it's my piriformis 😕 Does anyone else get shoulder pain when you use a hydration pack? So anyway with everything hurting I've spent the day inside, keeping warm and dry and doing absolutely nothing! #restday#listeningtomybody#everythinghurts
Easy like Sunday morning 🎶🎵🎶 #easymiles to launch the week. I’ve been limiting my outdoor miles, in an attempt to mitigate impact on my back & neck while working on injury recovery. These are the miles I miss- the smell of moisture in the air, passing people walking their dogs, the crunch of ice. Today, I soaked it all in...and I’m at peace, smiling, filled with gratitude!
“Keep your head up, keep your heart strong.” 20 miles that were ran this morning with all heart...and a few choice words to myself along the way. 😉 It wasn’t pretty, but I got it done. I am so glad it is Saturday and I hope everyone has a wonderful day! 😊💕💕
12 Saturday miles 💙
It's been on my bucket list for years to run around Washington Park in Denver, and today I got to do it (plus checked out Cheeseman with this cool monument) with these girlies - and it was pretty dang fun!
Sometimes running is about effort, sometimes its to see how far or fast we can go, and sometimes it's too heal our souls. Today was a fun, 'good for the soul' kind of run. Beautiful scenery, no care on paces, just enjoying great company and laughing a LOT!!
Have an amazing weekend IG'ers - and good luck to any racers or long runners!! Make it rock!
Just do what you like and don‘t listen to what other people say! Slighty faster today due to rain and chilly temperatures. Happy I got it done😃👍🏻 Looking forward to a good meal now🤪
W3D7: half marathon!🙌😃👊 It was chilly this morning at the Chilly Willy half😉 Started a little late, but was a fun, low-key race! Ran with my dad, and our goal was a long run with a medal at the end🎖 Finished 13.29 miles in 2:10:51👌 Now for food and a fun weekend!
Do you do January races? What's too cold for you to race in? I did a race on Chicago back in January 2016 that was in the single digits😨 Definitely the coldest I'd go!
Run. For. Life. 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼 Guyzzz.... Strong doesn’t always mean fast. It means sticking it out when your body is screaming for you to quit! I could say I had a failed speed session today, but I’m not gonna. I couldn’t hit my planned paces, but I ran on a crappy hotel treadmill in a hot gym at 5am. I did run 10 half-mile repeats. 7 miles total... then I worked a long day on my feet. I refuse to call that failure. Tomorrow is a new day. Cheers to the weekend and everyone getting out there every day and just doin it. Whatever that is. ❤️ #coyote#missyourbrowneyes#marathontraining#lamarathon#runforlife#speedwork#justdoit#executivelife#ourworld#instagood#N
