Healthcare requires attention to detail. 👀
If you've been given a label (sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, etc.), your doctor is allergic to the detail necessary to solve your problem.

This was my Facebook memory for today. I’m still drinking my shakes. No it is not a protein shake. It is nutrition all in one delicious drink.
What does that all mean, Phoebe?
Today I am going to talk about one of the things that matter the most to me.... low glycemic index.
The glycemic index (GI) is a scale from 0 to 100 created to measure how fast the carbs in different foods enter your system.
In the glycemic index, glucose sets at 100. From there the lower the number, the slower it absorbs. Foods rated 70 or above is considered high GI like white bread and refined baked goods. Foods rated between 56 and 69 are considered medium GI like raisins and bananas. Anything rated 55 or less is considered low GI. This includes most veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds.... and all flavors of my shake 👊🏾. The flavor with the highest GI is chocolate rated at 29. Apples are 39, lentils rate 29, and cashews rate 27.
As a diabetic that tries to take good control of my glucose intake, this shake has done me well. When I have a gastroparesis episode, I can drink this shake when I don’t have a appetite. If you have followed me for awhile, you have seen me add fruits, unsweetened almond milk, extracts, even Greek yogurt and many other things. This is a meal that fulfills me. 1 packet or one scoop costs me around 3 dollars a day. Compared to an average of 10 dollars plus a day if you buy a meal or even just coffee.
When I was first introduced to this meal, I was like “Nawl, I’m aiight.” Most of our impulses when it comes to money is No. Especially when it comes to health and fitness. When it comes to makeup or a purse, I will give up that money in a second. Why is that?! Maybe because of the instant gratification?
I did my calculations. My budget liked the numbers I would be saving. My health would be affected because I would have more control over my sugar levels. Plus it is an investment in me.
Are you worth investing in? If you want to know more, DM me, I would love to inform you on the facts. It’s is your decision if you want to or not.
P A D M A S A N A // aka Lotus Pose. Ah the classic hip opener is a firm fave among people of South East Asian descent. Why? Because genetically our hips are more open than the average human. Not to worry you can always Baddha Konasana or even Virasana to prep yourself for Padmasana. .
Lotus pose allows your brain to calm down, to stretch your ankles and knees and to ease any sciatica you may be dealing with. It’s also known to awake kundalini. 🕉🕯namaste x via @yoga

⭐️⭐️ ROMAN CHAIR / HYPERTENSION ⭐️⭐️ _________________________________________________
ℹ️ People often ask us what exercises they should do to strengthen their backs and we recommend buying a ; "roman chair" aka "hyperextension bench". They can be very 👍🏽cheap to buy so do not delay❗️ Get on eBay or Amazon and purchase one❗️ . This in our opinion is the BEST way to strengthen your back and also stretch out your entire posterior chain👌🏽 life changing peice of equipment ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1⃣ With your body straight, cross your arms in front of you (my preference) or behind your head. This will be your starting position.
2⃣Start bending forward slowly at the waist as far as you can while keeping your back flat. Inhale as you perform this movement. Keep moving forward until you feel a nice stretch on the hamstrings and you can no longer keep going without a rounding of the back.
3⃣Slowly raise your torso back to the initial position as you inhale. Tip: Avoid the temptation to arch your back past a straight line. Also, do not swing the torso at any time in order to protect the back from injury. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• #hyperextension#lowerback#lumbar#l4#l5#sciatica#deadlift#gym#nerve#spine#spasm#injury#recovery#instafitness#physio#rehabilitation#stretch#strengthen#yoga#london#uk#BJJ#MMA#UFC#powerlifter#bodybuilding#lift#technogym
I used to think that the full extent of this pose was getting the tibia parallel with the front of the mat. I was taught in one of my Pilates courses that you needed to do this to treat sciatica. After reading an article on sciatica written by Bernie Clark (yinyoga.com) who referenced the amazing low back disorder specialist Dr Stuart McGill, I now know better. It depends on what has caused the sciatica in the first place. As someone who suffers from this and SIJ issues it was very helpful and so I can share this knowledge with my students!

Opening my hip flexors, chest and shoulders, strengthening and conditioning my triceps by grounding through my forearms. Using my gaze to direct my intention.
I have a love/hate relationship with this pose so use modifications to encourage myself to focus on other parts of the body. Here I’m rolling the shoulder blades back deeper to lift the chest and open the heart to take attention away from how this intense hip opener can feel helping me to stay in the pose and enjoy benefits. 💕
This pose can also be used while pregnant if you are suffering from sciatic pains, make sure you practise with a bolster to lift and cushion your chest and face allowing space for the bump, keep both forearms grounded and your gaze in between your hands, don’t take a a twist .... and take it slow -
Trust me when I say, I’ve been through a lot of shit. It’s toughened me up as a person but I’m not invincible. I broke last week. I couldn’t take it anymore and went to the ER last week. It wasn’t so much the physical pain, but what it was doing to me mentally. I couldn’t put my socks on by myself anymore. I could hardly lift my leg up into the tub. The entire lack of freedom and independence this last 6 weeks has caused an 8LB weight gain. I can feel it and I can see it. Anyways, diagnosis is sciatica. ( For now ). I got a steroid shot in my ass, muscle relaxers, pain meds, anti inflammatories, and a packet filled with stretches and exercises to strengthen my core and back. I’m keeping up with the anti inflammatory meds and stretches. I’ve been doing exercises for my back and core and I’m hating every bit of it. But I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel; two days ago, the deep horrible nerve pinch in my back side has subsided. I’m still taking it easy because I’m scared to death the pain is going to come back already. Anyways! I just wanted to give an update. I can’t wait to get back in the gym and back on track. My body doesn’t deserve this. ❤️ #sciatica#injury#ouch#fitness#weightloss#healthjourney#fitnessjourney#selfie#selflove

To celebrate this #veganuary, I joined some friends at @allbarone to try their new all #vegan menu. I went for the lentil & cashew dahl & kale pakora. While I don't consider myself vegan, If no one had mentioned this was a vegan menu, I wouldn’t have been able to tell - it was absolutely delicious! I really enjoyed my meal and felt both satisfied, and like I had eaten some great recovery fuel.
So this month, why not join @weareveganuary by embracing all things vegan and see how you feel. 🌱

Fact Friday-as many of you are yet to experience TuiNa therapy and it’s benefits.
Tui(twee)Na is a fundamental part of traditional Chinese medicine and is based on the same diagnostics as acupuncture where we look for patterns of disharmony and imbalances before and during the treatment.
A combination of massage, acupressure, joint mobilisation and assisted stretching may be used along with other therapies such as fire cupping.
If you are suffering with emotional, mental and/or physical problems then TuiNa might be the relief you have been looking for.
In the human spine, there are 23 spinal discs: 6 discs in the neck, 12 discs in the upper and mid back, and 5 discs in the lower back. Collectively, they enable function, connect spinal bones together, allow for mobility, provide shock absorbance and protect our spinal cord and nerves. The spine works flawlessly until it is DAMAGED. The lay-term better known for a damaged spinal disc is a Slip Disc.
What causes it? 🤔
Is there any treatment for it???💊_______

a few days late to posting, but hey better late than never! even though I haven't gained any weight yet I'm definitely starting to see (and feel) my belly grow. . . or maybe it's the donut I just ate. 🤷🏼♀️ had our genetic screening last week and everything came back clear and in positive ranges. we even got to hear baby's heartbeat again and its sounding louder and stronger every day! 🥑
also round ligament pain is no joke and mixing it with sciatica hasn't been fun. anyone have advice on natural ways to deal with it?

Unbelievable! I've done 3 days of home program from my new #PT + limited activity and I'm not miraculously cured! ( #sarcasm 😉) I feel like I'm on the right road with the right person now. (Shout out to #twincitiesorthopedics) BUT it's a long way back to full function. I spent a good 6-7 months pushing myself far more than I should have on injured knees so it's gonna take a minute to heal. (Hopefully not too many minutes though because all these PT bills are adding up.)
^^^^^^^^^this is what I've been repeating to myself over AND OVER AND OVER. But honestly? This is so frustrating! I want to move! I want to feel better! And being so frustrated just makes me want to kick things which would definitely not help the knee situation. Oh and add in #sciatica flare ups and you have a whole party. #pityparty
Channeling my inner Jedi to get through this, but first I need my #lasersword
Encouraging thoughts/pictures/quotes much appreciated~~

Our founder, Du Yufeng, continues to visit the hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine during the week to have infusions of anti inflammatories and analgesics for her sciatica. She is also having acupuncture for her overall wellbeing and to relax the muscles and rebalance Qi deficiency. The doctors have advised her to take things easy and not to bend down too often but having been in the rescue world for a long time now, she is finding it hard to let others do some work for her.
We have a great team of volunteers and workers who are helping out with the parts that Du cannot but she still comes home each evening to administer medicines to the sick dogs and to make sure all the animals have been fed and given water before they go to bed. Only then does she go to bed herself.
She is adament she will be ok soon and she sends thanks to you all for your wishes of recovery.
In a past post I gave suggestions for kratom serving size. People then asked “how often do you drink it?”. This will vary from person to person, and situation to situation. Are you taking for pain relief? For me, I take it first thing in the morning, again in the afternoon and then right before bed. Are you taking to alleviate withdrawals or urges? If so, I found it helpful to take it in the morning and then monitor certain times of the day when I would normally experience “triggers” that make cravings or withdrawals arise... Have a little kratom nearby for those times when you might feel an urge. This could be considered on an “as needed” basis— usually more than 3 times a day. Your body will tell you if you’re taking too much or if you need to take more. Any other suggestions or questions?... please comment or dm me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #FollowAlong#kratomspace#kratom#kratomlife#kratomtea#cbd#kratomsaveslives#painmedication#iamkratom#kratomsaveslives#wearekratom#kratomsale#thc#painmeds#energy#pain#sciatica#injury#keepkratomlegal (this is not meant to be medical or professional advice or instruction; it is based solely on what works for me)

WANNA TRY ACRO YOGA!?! YOU CAN DO IT! CONTACT ME TODAY!
Last weekend I had the pleasure of training with @kristyaustinyoga. Although she has been involved with acro yoga for sometime Kristy primarily based (the bottom) and never had a chance to fly. Almost everything you see in this video she attempted for the FIRST TIME and nailed it! I asked her to share a few words about what Yoga and Acro Yoga means to her.
IN HER OWN WORDS:
I'm a strong believer that yoga is for everybody. Even if you're in a hospital bed unable to move, you can still visualize yourself doing these poses and using different breathing techniques to heal yourself from the inside out. Eventually you'll be able to do more and more as you create the things you've been envisioning.
What most people don't know about me is that I broke my tailbone during my oldest sons birth and was unable to walk for 3 months. After numerous tests I was also diagnosed with scoliosis, sciatica, pinched nerves and muscle spasms. With the pregnancy of my twins I developed diastasis recti, which is a separation of the abdominal muscles. You could call me a total hot mess as my emotional issues rapidly begin to manifest within my physical body causing me to quickly deteriorate. It was yoga that saved me from the inside out, and that's why I'm so passionate about what I do.
And I recently rediscovered AC/DC so when I hear cofounder Malcolm Young passed I figured it was only right to pay tribute to one of the most legendary rock bands of our time.

Shown above are several strategies that can be effective in reducing low back pain or pain that refers down the leg. Some common presentations of such pain include (but are not limited to):
• Shifting away from the painful leg when required to stand for long durations,
• Pain in the butt when bending the neck and trunk upon entering a car,
• Reproduction of pain when crossing your leg to put your sock on
• Soreness in low back and/or leg when bending down to pick something up.
Notice from the video that a couple of the solutions to the above problems are actually doing those motions themselves. The 🔑 is graded exposure--gently and gradually acclimating yourself to these movements while minimizing pain exacerbation.
For certain individuals, symptoms can be successfully resolved or significantly reduced with a combination of repeated trunk extensions, comfortably introducing load/resistance and nerve flossing. As always, the degree of intensity and frequency varies from person to person and everyone is different so it's best to get checked out in person to see what works best for your particular symptoms.
What movements have you found to be successful for your referred pain? Lemme know in the comments below!

Final set of “dead bugs” in my circuit today. The first time I was introduced to these by my trainer I could hardly move my legs off the exercise ball without feeling my back starting to lift off the ground. The point of the move is to hold your core tight and keep your lower back flat against the ground. It looks way easier than it is! My core is slowly getting stronger with consistency and as much as I love to hate these, it’s paying off. I’m glad I took a video to see how far I’ve come. Rehab has been a very humbling experience and I’m still learning where it’s ok to push through and where I need to know I have to stop. After a few days off, it was nice to get back to it! And now to get my meal prepped for a set of nights. 😱
