Bali has a gazillion temples. Every house in Bali has its own private temple in the front, with the house itself making an appearance once you've navigated your way through the temple.
While you are sometimes allowed to enter these private temples of the locals, you are never allowed to pray it in. And with community temples, or even grander ones like this, you won't be allowed into the temple to begin with. Often times, only descendants of the family are allowed to enter/pray.
It almost feels like they are a little possessive. 😛 But I truly appreciated the fact that even as tourists, they expected you to respect the decorum and sanctity of these temples. They would hand out sarongs at the entrance and have you tie one around your waist before you enter. I know for a fact that they don't do much of this in India, so I was pleasantly surprised!
